Is it too early to talk about party season?

2 Nov

November’s here (though it doesn’t really feel like it because it’s so warm), which means it might just be time to start thinking about your party season outfit. Hear me out… For one thing, the shops have been stocking Christmas stuff for months now, which means you’re not alone if you’re thinking about it. For another, Christmas parties usually start right at the beginning of December (my first one’s on the 5th), which means you’ve actually only got four weeks to get ready. See? Makes perfect sense!

The other (and perhaps most persuasive) argument is that, if you don’t act fast, all the best stuff will be gone. Convinced? Good – here are some of my ideas.

Party outfit one – all about the shoes…

Far and away the party shoes of the season are these amazing sparkly flats from Boden.

Shoes, £129, Boden

They’ve been featured in all the fashion mags, and the black version has already sold out in a few sizes. But I think my favourite is this navy pair – they’ll go so well with blue skinny jeans and a simple top. So, while they might be pricey, they’re the only new thing you’d need to buy, as they’ll jazz up anything in your existing wardrobe. Voila! Still not convinced about the price? Here are a few cheaper alternatives…

Party outfit two – the standout dress…

This is all about buying one amazing dress that’ll work with simple accessories you probably already own. Again – you only need to buy one thing, woohoo! And I’m steering clear of sparkles this year (apart from on the footwear above, of course), so you’l be able to wear it long after Christmas.

My dream dress is this one, though it’s a little out of my price range!

I love the drop waist, the long sleeves, the amazing colour. So I’ve been looking for some affordable versions…

£169, Iris & Ink at The Outnet (still not cheap, but it’s £100 less than the Antipodium one, which means you can buy those Boden shoes!)

Party outfit three – the trophy jacket…

I’ve got a bit of a headstart on this with my new vintage Topshop jacket (see previous post)

I’m thinking of pairing it with a simple black dress and heels. So here’s a party outfit I don’t even need to go shopping for. But of course, there are alternatives…

Part outfit four – sequin skirt and jumper

My final idea is to dress down an amazing sparkly skirt with a nice jumper, perhaps with a shirt or blouse underneath, and a trusty pair of brogues. I reckon this is a good option for Christmas lunches with colleagues, and I’ve got a nice selection of fine-knit sweaters and big, fluffy jumpers to spin it a few different ways.

I’ve got this skirt hanging in my wardrobe already (it’s from Zara’s s/s 14 collection)

But, being nearly Christmas, there are lots of others out there now…
