Summer florals

4 Jun

I’ve been up to all kinds of flower-related activities lately, from visiting Mayfair Flower Show at Sketch…

(This is a pic of the amazing ceiling in one of the rooms, with beautiful flowers hanging from it)

To a flower-arranging masterclass with Bloomon…

They’re a brilliant new floristry company, which began in Denmark, and which delivers enormous brightly coloured bouquets to your home on a subscription basis. Check them out here.

So, naturally, this has inspired me to include some new florals in my wardrobe. It’s obviously not a new concept – florals happen in fashion pretty much every single summer – but there’s a reason for that: they’re just lovely. Who doesn’t love flowers? So why not add a little floristry to your wardrobe with my top five high street pieces…

1. Oasis top

5881703 (1)

I’m fairly mad about the entire new Chelsea Physic Garden collection from Oasis, and this pretty top, £40, is just one of the many standout pieces. The dresses are also top of the list for anyone attending a wedding this summer.

2. Liberty x Havaianas espadrilles

We all know that Liberty is the place to go for ditzy-floral-print fabrics, and it’s also pretty hot on its collaborations. These espadrilles, £45, are possibly the best shoes of the summer.

3. Zara kimono jacket

I’m making a stand and moving away from the bomber. If you want to be original this summer, this kimono jacket, £29.99, is the perfect choice.

4. Accessorize clutch

Accessorize won’t be beaten on clutch bags, particularly embellished numbers perfect for nights out, summer events like the races or polo, and weddings. This bedazzled clutch, £49, is a girl’s dream.

5. French Connection embroidered jeans

Anyone who remembers B*Witched (the girl group, not the TV show) may recoil in horror at the thought of bringing back embroidered denim, but I’m afraid it’s happened, so it’s time to jump aboard the trend Rollercoaster (see what I did there, B*Witched fans? Am I making myself sound old?). That’s right, the late 90s is back, and jeans emblazoned with pretty floral motifs are flying off the shelves. There are limited pairs of these French Connection jeans, £90, still available, but when I say limited I mean limited, so keep your eyes peeled for more styles. I’ve seen some in Zara, too. Happy hunting!

Goodness, all these florals have made me feel like summer might actually be upon us now. Come on, weather gods, make it happen!

That Kate Spade dress

20 Feb

I’ve fallen a bit in love with this ever-so-pretty, totally springy, rose-printed shirt dress from Kate Spade

The silk, the long sleeves, the pussybow neck tie – it’s all perfect. But at £378, it’s not exactly within my budget.

Never fear, though, because I have scoured the high street to find five alternatives that I can afford…

  1. Ticking the pink and pretty box is this little number…

£22.99 from New Look

2. Meanwhile, for those who find the pink a little too sugary, this black-background number has a little more edge, and still offers those perfect long sleeves…

£24.99, New Look

3. Recreate the pussybow neckline with this number

It’s an amazing £8 from Glamorous

4. The colours in this dress are pretty spot on…

Another bargainous £8, from Neon Rose

5. And finally – like your floral shirt dresses to have a hint of military? Well, who doesn’t!

£46, Oasis

See, who needs designer?

Pretty dresses

22 Jan

I’ve had a bit of a wardrobe revamp recently (new job = new clothes!) and a lot of what I’m left with are separates. While I’m enjoying the amount of options my combinations of trousers, skirts, shirts and jumpers is offering me, I think I’m missing dresses.

I sold loads of my old frocks on eBay, but now I’ve decided I need to replace them. And, as luck would have it, there are loads in New Look at the moment that I want to buy – so I can stock up in one fell swoop.

Here are the contenders…

White floral edge, £22.99

Pink contrast trim tunic, £9.99 (bargain!)

Grey checked tunic, £17.99

Monochrome Peter Pan collar, £19.99

Bold floral tunic, £22.99

I think, budget-wise, I can only really justify buying two, so now I just have to make the decision about which. Any votes?

Sorry the pictures are so small – I always seem to encounter this with pics from New Look. But click the links and you’ll see them in all their glory!

Beautiful bouquets

26 May

The sun’s out! Hooray, three cheers and all that!

I even managed to sit in the garden for a while this afternoon – the first time I’ve done that this year – so this post is inspired by that – I’m going all floral. I love a bright colour and a pretty print, so this ticks all the boxes. And I’ve seen some celeb ladies looking gorgeous in their blooms – none more so than Jessica Alba. I NEED her wardrobe!

Here’s how I’ll be copying her…

Oasis has some fab stuff…

oasis38 £38

oasis30 £30

oasis65 £65

There’s also some great stuff in our old fave Oliver Bonas

ob34 £34

And my trusty Asos

asos105 At £65 for the jacket and £40 for the trousers, this suit’s not exactly a bargain, but it can be worn in so many ways – like this as a suit, or just wear the individual pieces separately.

Feeling festival fab?

asos10 £10, also Asos. I thought these headbands might be one of those trends that never escape from the pages of glossy mags, but I actually saw a lady in a beer garden wearing one this afternoon! I think it’s fab if you’ve got the confidence to rock it!

Over to Miss Selfridge

misss40 £40

I could go on – there are gorgeous florals in pretty much every high street shop – just take your pick! Just looking at them makes me happy!
