Transitional style

It’s an exciting time of the year, fashion wise, but also a very confusing one. Some days it’s warm enough for sandals, T-shirts and bare legs, other days you need boots and a coat. And the s/s 2016 fashion weeks have kicked off in New York, which means that we’re also about to be bombarded with images of what we’re going to be wearing early next year. How’s a girl meant to decide what to wear?

It’s all about choosing a few transitional pieces to mix with your summer ones now, before we need to graduate into full-on knee-high boots and cashmere cosiness.

First up is the faux fur gilet. I’ve always had a thing for faux fur – I can’t resist a coat in it, or a bit of fluffy trim on a bag or cardigan. But I think this year I’ll be investing in a gilet. It’ll work now over midi and maxi dresses, and as a light jacket with silk blouses and jeans. Here are a few good ones…

£39.99, New Look at Asos. I’m always drawn to light coloured faux fur, but I think I’d probably wear this black one more as it’s less of a big statement (and won’t get as dirty!)

£65, River Island. Though having said I like the black one because it’s less of a statement, I can’t help loving this one!

£32, Forever 21. This is a great neutral style. And a total bargain!

My next transitional item is the open-toe boot. The perfect combination of shoe, boot and sandal, these babies are the shoes you need when it looks like it might rain, but it’s also hot out, and you’re planning on having bare legs.

And finally, it’s the sleeved midi or shirt dress. Great now with sandals, equally good in two months’ time with knee-high boots and a cashmere jumper on top.
